Brown covered all three of his bulls to claim the win the California's Capitol City.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 18, 2009) - The world’s best bull riders invaded Sacramento, Calif., for stop number four on the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) prestigious Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS). At the second of back-to-back stops, ARCO Arena was filled with the top 45 bull riders as they took on the best bulls in the business on January 17-18. In the end, Zack Brown (Santa Fe, Texas) walked away victorious after scoring 262.5 points on three bulls including a 90-point ride on one of the top five bucking bulls in 2008. Brown left California with a check for $29,708.
“This weekend was great,” Brown stated in his winner’s circle interview. “I feel good, I’m riding great, and I’m staying healthy. I’m just staying focused and feel that I have a good shot at having a successful year.”
In round one, Brown topped Kaycee Simpson’s bull, Cowboy Joe, for 85 points. He followed that up with an 87.5 point ride on the bull, Narley, owned by Tim Hopkins Bucking Bulls, splitting second, third, and fourth place in round two. He went into the Built Ford Tough Championship Round in second place on two bulls, giving him the second pick in the PBR Bull Draft. Brown chose to get on Naccarato Bucking Bulls’ prize animal, All In. He scored 90 points on the bull, sealing up not only the short-go victory, but the overall event win.
“I chose All In for the short round in Fresno and he ended up bucking me off,” Brown stated. “I had the chance to pick him here so I went for a rematch and was successful.”
Taking second place overall was Dustin Elliott (North Platte, Neb.) who scored 260 points on three bulls. Third place went to Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.) who totaled 255.25 points after riding all three of his bulls. 2004 PBR World Champ Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) took fourth place with a total of 253 points and rounding out fifth place was fan favorite cowboy Luke Snyder (Raymore, Mo.) who totaled 248.75 points
