2010 season off to electric start

DULUTH, Ga. (November 22, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders Inc. (PBR) closed out the weekend in Duluth, GA at the Challenger Tour Championships presented by Dickies, a part of the Built Ford Tough Series, with multiple winners walking away with big paychecks. Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil) and J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, NC) picked up right where they left off at the 2009 World Finals - Marchi took home $210,000 as the Built Ford Tough Series event winner, and Mauney was presented with a $78,750 check when he was named the Challenger Tour Championship winner.

Marchi is convinced that his “confidence is back and it feels good. It’s a good start to 2010.”

All of the Challenger Tour competitors held their own throughout the weekend, with impressive rides from Jordan Hupp (Cheyenne, Wyo.), who stayed on three of his four bulls and ended the weekend placing 6th overall, and Travis Sellers (Wentzville, MO) with his Round Three win of 87.5 points and $20,000 on Circle T Ranch & Rodeo’s bull, Outta Da Blue. But it was North Carolina super star, J.B. Mauney, who received the weekend’s highest score, 92.25 points, on Crosswired, from D&H Cattle Co./Clifton Wiggins, and the Challenger Tour Championship title.

Ned Cross (Midland, Ore.) came in a close second in the Challenger Tour standings, riding the bull Wow, from Homestead Genetics/Something Special Deli & Lubex, in Round Three and taking home $10,000 for the round. Cross also became the first person to ride Major Payne, from Robinson/Katich/Pinnacle Bull Group for a remarkable 91.0 points. Closing out the Challenger Finals standings was Ross Coleman (Molalla, Ore.), who stayed on Hot Stuff, from D&H Cattle Company, for 87.5 points and took home $7,750.

The Built Ford Tough Series kicked off the 2010 season in typical fashion as Marchi and Mauney went head-to-head for the event title. Even with Mauney’s 92.25 point ride in Round 4, Marchi sealed the deal with 87 points on Cool Spot, from Hebert/Strickland Bucking Bulls/Whit.

When asked how he felt about his performance, Marchi laughed. “I drew good bulls tonight to win the event. I’m a rich cowboy right now!”

The Built Ford Tough Series will charge into Baltimore, Maryland for its second stop of 2010, January 2-4, 2010.  The tour will then invade New York City’s Madison Square Garden for the fourth year in a row the following weekend, January 8-10, 2010.
